Ultra-high-power (UHP) graphite electrodes, particularly those with a 600mm diameter, represent the pinnacle of electrode technology, engineered to meet the extreme demands of modern EAF steelmaking. Their design prioritizes three critical properties: low resistivity, high thermal conductivity, and mechanical strength-all optimized for large-scale, high-current operations.

Manufactured from ultra-pure petroleum coke (sulfur < 0.2%) and coal tar pitch, 600mm UHP electrodes undergo rigorous processing: isostatic molding ensures uniform density, followed by graphitization at 2,800–3,000℃ to align carbon atoms into crystalline structures. This process reduces resistivity to < 55 μΩ·m (vs. 60–70 μΩ·m for standard HP electrodes), minimizing energy loss during operation. For a 300-ton EAF, this translates to 15–20% lower electricity costs per ton of steel.

Thermal management is equally critical. The 600mm diameter distributes heat across a larger surface area, reducing peak temperatures at the tip and slowing oxidation. Advanced coatings (e.g., silicon carbide) further enhance corrosion resistance, extending electrode life to 50–60 heats-compared to 30–40 heats for non-coated UHP electrodes.

Mechanically, 600mm UHP electrodes feature high flexural strength (> 12 MPa) to withstand the weight of molten steel and furnace vibrations. Tapered tip designs (narrowing from 600mm to 550mm) optimize current distribution, reducing hot spots and premature wear.
